Complex structures on Lie algebras
The existence of a complex
structure on a differentiable manifold is a difficult problem to solve. In the
case of Lie groups the usual question is the existence of a left invariant
complex structure. This allows to transport the
question at the Lie algebra level. The classification of complex structures on
Lie algebras of dimension two and four is known. In dimension six it was
already given for the nilpotent Lie algebras. In higher dimension partial
results are given. Our aim is to explain the difficulties of this problem and
the main techniques which are useful to treat with it. We also expose results obtained by researchers working in this
topic.
